In the wake of one of the worst natural disasters in Queensland history, the D’Aguilar Highway through the Blackbutt Range was closed as a result of major landslip damage along an almost a 2.5km stretch of the road. The highway has been reconstructed to 2 lanes.
ONF was subcontracted by VDM Constructions to provide surveying services on the multi-million dollar Blackbutt Range reconstruction project.
During the 2½year long project, ONF provided survey set-out, data translation and management, earthwork volume calculations, as-constructed surveys and management of machine guidance systems.
During this project, ONF were required to liaise between the client (‘Aurecon’ for Main Roads), Engineers (Parsons Brinckerhoff) & the Construction Contractor (VDM Constructions). At the completion of the project, ONF were contacted separately by all three major contributors to this project and thanked for our professionalism and commitment to quality during the project.
“VDM have recently completed a 3 km stretch of the D’Aguilar Highway at Blackbutt Range. This project was originally forecast to be completed within 3 months but due to the complex nature of the topography and the slip zones encountered it was completed 28 months later. ONF Surveyors were engaged for this project which went from a $2 m project into a $65m project. During this period we had a great working relationship with all their staff and the professionalism shown during some difficult and trying times was exemplary. This project was made harder due to the continual movement of the range which required a lot of effort by the surveyors on site to keep abreast of the movements and to work with Main Roads designers who were constantly making major changes to the design. Parts of this project were design and construct which ONF were able to assist with”
